CLAY COUNTY, Fla. -- A Clay County man named as a person of interest in the Somer Thompson slaying will fight extradition back to Florida, according to the Florida Times-Union.

Jarred Harrell was arrested in Mississippi last week on child pornography charges.

Harrell is originally from Lucedale, Miss., but lived in Meridian. He was homeschooled before moving to Florida. Police say he lived in a home on Gano Avenue, which was just one block west from where Somer Thompson disappeared in October.

His family said Harrell just moved back to Mississippi a few weeks ago.

MORE INFORMATION ON SOMER THOMPSON

Harrell is facing an extradition hearing in Mississippi this week and is currently being held on a $1 million bond in the Lauderdale County Detention Center in Meridian.

If Harrell follows through with his intent to fight extradition, Florida investigators will have to submit documents to Gov. Charlie Crist, the TU said. Crist would then ask Mississippi's governor to extradite to Harrell to Florida.

Friends Found Porn On Harrell's Computer

Man Says Daughter, Fiancé Who Lived With Harrell Turned Computer In To JSO

POSTED: Friday, February 12, 2010
UPDATED: 6:51 pm EST February 12, 2010
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Rod Buchanan and his wife are pretty familiar with Jarred Harrell, who was arrested Thursday and named a person of interest in the Somer Thompson murder case.
In fact, Harrell is a family friend of the Buchanans. Last August, Harrell was looking for a place to stay and Buchanan's daughter and her fiancé took him in at their apartment on Wells Road.
That lasted a couple of months, and when Harrell moved out, Buchanan's daughter found child pornography on Harrell's computer.
"They went up and turned the computer on and saw things that no one should have to see," Buchanan said. "They found it at like 12 in the morning. We were at (the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office), when my wife got off of work at 7 a.m., we were at JSO around 8:30 that morning with the computer. So it was turned in right away.
"We took it to JSO thinking that that's where we needed to take it. And once we handed it over to JSO, they handed it over to Clay County," Buchanan said.

JSO released a statement Friday regarding the computer that was turned in on Aug. 10, saying:

"The witness claimed it contained pornographic materials involving children. A sex crimes detective interviewed the witness. The detective determined that the residence where the computer was located is outside of JSO’s jurisdiction. The witness was advised of this, and the detective notified the appropriate law enforcement agencies, Orange Park Police and the Clay County Sheriff’s Office. The computer was placed into evidence at JSO, and retrieved by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday, August 13, 2009."

Clay County Sheriff Rick Beseler also released a statement Friday regarding the timing of Harrell's arrest on child pornography charges in relation to the Somer Thompson case:

"Some disturbing commentary has been brought to our attention regarding the timing of the arrest of Jarred Harrell on child porn charges, namely, the inference that the Clay County Sheriff’s Office could have somehow arrested this pornography suspect (Harrell) before the tragic death of Somer Thompson. As we have said all along, we must protect the integrity of our investigation to insure arrest and prosecution is not jeopardized, so not every detail is releasable and not every question can be answered at this time. However, I have the upmost confidence in the team working these cases and know – for a fact – that everything that could be done was done in regards to completing the Harrell child porn investigation and it was done in a timely manner and as quickly as the law allows.
An investigation into any allegation of child pornography possession involves far more than simply establishing that a computer contains the illegal photos or movies. Detectives must be able to prove how it was acquired, who had possession and when. This involves the painstaking process of verifying download times, bank transactions, source of pornography and methods of payment. All this must then be linked back to a suspect before obtaining a warrant and making an arrest.
To infer that the Harrell child pornography investigation somehow languished is unfair and inaccurate."

Buchanan said he thought that would be the end of it once the computer was turned in to police.
After 7-year-old Somer Thompson's body was found in October, Buchanan said he learned that Harrell had moved back to Gano Avenue, the road where Somer was last seen, to be with his parents.
Buchanan said he was shocked to learn that Harrell's parents had moved out two weeks before Somer Thompson was reported missing, but Harrell still lived at the home.
Buchanan and his wife decided to go by that house.
"And when we drove by, his vehicle was in the driveway, and it was right across the street from the athletic field, right where she (Somer) had to walk every day," Buchanan said.
After that, Buchanan said he went to a Clay County detective and let him know that Harrell was living in that house on Gano. Buchanan said he also told the detective about the pornography that they had found a few months earlier and turned in to police.

Somer's Father Talks About Man's Arrest

Jarred Harrell Named Person Of Interest In Somer Thompson's Killing

POSTED: Tuesday, February 16, 2010

Sam Thompson wears a purple ribbon every day in honor of his daughter Somer Thompson, who was killed in October.
The ribbon is Somer's favorite color, and Thompson said it makes him feel good to have it close to his heart.
"It's just a small memento," Thompson said. "Reminds me of my daughter. I miss her so much."

Thompson lives in North Carolina, and on Tuesday, he spoke publicly for the first time about the arrest of Jarred Harrell, who was named a person of interest in Somer's killing.

Harrell is being held on child porn charges in Mississippi.
On the day police arrested Harrell, even before the news broke, Thompson said he couldn't stop thinking about Somer. He wonders now if it was a sign that things are starting to move forward in his daughter's case.
"As a father to have his daughter taken and to have to look this man in the eye, that's something I have to pray hard about that I'll be able to look this man in the face for what he's done," Thompson said.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The governor of Mississippi has agreed to extradite Jarred Harrell to face child pornography charges in Clay County, the Florida Times-Union is reporting.

Thursday afternoon Florida Gov. Charlie Crist stepped in to request that the person of interest in the murder of Somer Thompson be extradited from Mississippi to Clay County.

Harrell was arrested last week in Mississippi on child porn charges. He remains in jail on $1 million bail.

Following his arrest, Clay County Sheriff Rick Beseler held a news conference announcing that Harrell was also a person of interest in the Somer Thompson case. He used to live near Somer's home, and along her route home from school.

Last October, 7-year-old Somer disappeared as she walked home from school in Orange Park. Her body was found a few days later in a Georgia landfill.

Harrell announced earlier this week that he plans to fight extradition and would not sign an extradition waiver, which meant Crist had to request permission for extradition from Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour.

"After working closely with the Office of State Attorney Angela Corey in the 4th Circuit, today I requested that Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour grant the extradition of fugitive Jarred Mitchell Harrell to Florida, where he faces 29 counts of possession of child pornography," said Crist in his request Thursday.

Lauderdale County (Miss.) Sheriff Billy Sollie told the Times-Union tonight he's waiting for Clay officials to schedule moving Harrell, which could happen as early as next week.

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) -- -- JACKSON, Miss. (AP) -- Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour has signed an extradition order (read) for a man who is a person of interest in the slaying of a 7-year-old Florida girl.

The order was signed on Thursday. Florida officials received it Monday.

READ: Extradition Order

The order directs authorities in Lauderdale County to release Jarred Mitchell Harrell to Florida, where he faces 29 counts of possession of child pornography.

Authorities say Harrell is wanted for questioning in Somer Thompson's October death. Her body was found in a south Georgia landfill two days after she disappeared while walking home from school in Orange Park, near Jacksonville.

Harrell, an unemployed 24-year-old who lived on and off in Somer's neighborhood, was arrested Feb. 11 in Meridian, Miss. He is being held there on a $1 million bond.

Miss. Sheriff Says Person Of Interest In Somer Murder Case Will Leave This Week

POSTED: Monday, February 22, 2010
UPDATED: 4:24 pm EST February 22, 2010

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. -- Jarred Harrell, the man named as a person of interest in the killing of 7-year-old Orange Park girl Somer Thompson, will soon be brought back to Clay County.
Harrell, 24, who's facing 29 counts of possession of child pornography, is currently sitting in solitary confinement in his jail cell in Lauderdale County, Miss.
A warrant signed by the Mississippi governor over the weekend gives permission to Clay County deputies to go get Harrell and take him back to Florida.
The sheriff in Mississippi told Channel 4 that will happen sometime this week. He said the exchange will only take about 30 minutes.
He said Harrell will be checked out of the jail and turned over to Clay County deputies cuffed and shackled. The sheriff said Harrell will be put into the car and driven back to Orange Park.
For security reasons, there will likely be multiple cars and many officers making the 10-hour trip.
The Clay County Sheriff's Office said it will not reveal the exact time and location of when and where Harrell's extradition will take place.
Investigators said Harrell spent some time in Orange Park and lived in a house on Gano Avenue, the street where Somer was last seen alive in October.
Investigators said more charges could come against Harrell in addition to the child pornography charges he's facing.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Jarred Harrell, who is facing child pornography charges in Clay County and is considered a person of interest in the death of Somer Thompson, is expected to arrive on the First Coast this evening.

The sheriff of Lauderdale County, Miss., where he was being held, said this afternoon that Harrell is no longer being housed in the county facility, indicating that he had been extradited to Clay County. It is estimated a caravan of one truck and two cars left the jail in Meridian, Miss., around 10 a.m. EST.

In October, 7-year-old Somer disappeared as she walked home from school in Orange Park. Her body was found days later in a Georgia landfill. The case remains unsolved.

The extradition process for the man considered a person of interest in the case has been ongoing since last week. He was in jail on $1 million bail. Harrell said last week that he wanted to fight extradition and would not sign an extradition waiver.

Thursday afternoon Florida Gov. Charlie Crist stepped in to request that Harrell be extradited from Mississippi to Clay County. Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour complied Friday.

In a statement about the extradition last week, Crist said, "After working closely with the Office of State Attorney Angela Corey in the 4th Circuit, today I requested that Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour grant the extradition of fugitive Jarred Mitchell Harrell to Florida, where he faces 29 counts of possession of child pornography."

Dale Carson, a retired FBI agent and defense attorney, said, based on his experience, Harrell will be ready to talk to detectives once he gets to Clay County. "It's more likely, in my view, he will talk about some things. They don't just clam up and not say anything."

Following Harrell's arrest in Mississippi nearly two weeks ago, Clay County Sheriff Rick Beseler held a news conference announcing that Harrell was also a person of interest in the Somer Thompson case. He used to live near Somer's home, and along her route home from school.

Person Of Interest In Somer Murder Case Arrives In Clay County

POSTED: Tuesday, February 23, 2010
UPDATED: 7:25 am EST February 24, 2010

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. -- Jarred Harrell, the man named as a person of interest in the death of 7-year-old Orange Park girl Somer Thompson, arrived at the Clay County Jail Wednesday at about 1:30 a.m.
Clay sheriff's spokeswoman Mary Justino said Harrell is expected to appear before a judge some time after 7:45 a.m. Wednesday. His bond is currently set at $1 million dollars.
Harrell, 24, who is facing 29 counts of possession of child pornography, was released Tuesday morning from the jail in Lauderdale County, Miss., where he was held since his arrest by federal agents two weeks ago.
A warrant signed by the Mississippi governor over the weekend gave permission to Clay County deputies to go get Harrell and take him back to Florida. Channel 4's Jennifer Bauer and Matt James followed the three-vehicle caravan carrying Harrell until they were blocked by Lauderdale County deputies.
For security reasons, multiple cars and many officers made the nine-hour trip to Green Cove Springs, Fla.

The Clay County Sheriff's Office did not reveal when Harrell would be back in Clay County, but Channel 4's cameras were rolling when deputies pulled up to the jail.

While Harrell faces no charges in connection with Somer Thompson's death, investigators said he lived for a time in a house on Gano Avenue, a few doors down from where Somer was last seen alive in October.
Her body was found two days later in a Charlton County, Ga., landfill where Orange Park trash is dumped.
"I don't think the community will ever be quite the same," said Sharon Galloway, who lives across the street from the Thompson home. "I think everybody wants to have some kind of end to this. I just hope that it brings some kind of peace to people."
Rod Buchanan, whose daughter and her fiancé lived with Harrell when he said they discovered child porn on Harrell's computer, said he's relieved Harrell was coming back to Clay County.
"It's relief to see him get back here for the child porn charges," Buchanan said. "We want to see justice served. We don't know that that man's done anything else other than that."

GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. -- Jarred Harrell, a person of interest in the murder of Somer Thompson, was in court this morning in Clay County to face child pornography charges following extradition early this morning.

Harrell, appearing toward the end of the morning's first hearings, faces 29 counts of child pornography. He participated via closed-circuit signal from the jail after all other inmates left the room.

The hearing lasted about five minutes. No family or friends were present. "I understand there is an interest in this case," Judge Richard Townsend said at the start of the morning bond hearings.

In October, 7-year-old Somer disappeared as she walked home from school in Orange Park. Authorities found her body days later in a Georgia landfill. The case remains unsolved.

This morning, Townsend also said there are reasonable grounds to think a crime has been committed. He set the arraignment for 9 a.m. March 10.

When asked if he had anything to add Harrell said, "No, Your Honor."

Harrell was allowed to make a phone call after the five-minute hearing. Public defender Kate Bedell appeared with Harrell. Bond remained the same as in Mississippi at $1,000,003.

Harrell left the jail in Meridian, Miss., in a police caravan of one truck and two cars around 10 a.m. Tuesday, arriving at the Clay County Jail at 1:20 a.m. Wednesday. Three cars drove quickly into the jail.

Even people who have lived near the jail for years are weary of Harrell's arrival.

"It's a media frenzy. I'm just hoping the officers can stay safe," says resident Mary Manges.

The extradition process has been ongoing since last week. Harrell said last week that he wanted to fight extradition and would not sign a waiver.

Thursday afternoon Florida Gov. Charlie Crist stepped in to formally request that Harrell be extradited from Mississippi to Clay County.

Following Harrell's arrest in Mississippi nearly two weeks ago, Clay County Sheriff Rick Beseler held a news conference announcing that Harrell was also a person of interest in the Somer case. He used to live near Somer's home, and along her route home from school.

From Jail, Harrell Tells Mom 'I'm Sorry'

Clay County Man Faces Child Porn Charges, Person Of Interest In Girl's Slaying

POSTED: Wednesday, February 24, 2010
UPDATED: 3:55 pm EST February 24, 2010

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- After Jarred Harrell's arrest in Meridian, Miss., on child pornography charges out of Clay County, he was held for nearly two weeks in solitary confinement before being extradited to Florida.
During that time, he talked with his mother, Annis Dailey, by phone about the charges against him, as well as the fact that he was being called a person of interest in the abduction and killing of 7-year-old Somer Thompson last October.
For several months last year, Harrell lived with his parents on Gano Avenue in Orange Park -- a few doors from where Somer was last seen.
In the first of two calls released by the Lauderdale County, Miss., Sheriff's Office, Harrell apologized for the situation he's in and talked about his despair.

Harrell: "I literally think the stress is killing me."
Mother: "Trust me. You would not believe everything here. We're right there with you."
    Harrell: "I know, I'm sorry."
Mother: "No, no, no, it's not all you. Trust me. It's gonna get a lot uglier for them before it's over with. Trust me."

It's not clear who Dailey was referring to in that statement.
In another part of the conversation, Dailey talked about being her son's alibi.

Mother: "Keep your chin up, keep your mouth shut and get an attorney."
Harrell: "I'm trying. Just don't believe anything."
Mother: :Honey, I don't believe anything. Trust me. The thing is I'm your alibi. So I have to be careful what I say... We're not making any comments to the news, the little girl's mother is not making any comments, so they're trying to pull from everything else they can, so it's making them look like idiots. The longer you're there trust me, the better it is. It's tough I know, but just hang in there."

Representatives of a state agency visited Dailey's Callahan home on Wednesday morning. They refused to tell Channel 4's Jim Piggott identify themselves or say why they were at the home. A spokesman for the Division of Children and Families would not confirm whether their employees visited the home.
While it appeared someone was home, no one answered the door either for the state workers or Piggott.

After being booked into the Clay County jail early Wednesday morning, Harrell appeared before a judge for the first time on the 29 counts of possession of child pornography and was ordered held on $1,000,003 bail. [Full Story]
Harrell has not been charged with anything connected to the death of Somer Thompson, but the day he was arrested in Mississippi, Clay County Sheriff Rick Beseler named Harrell a person of interest in the homicide investigation.

GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. -- The man considered a person of interest in the abduction and murder of Somer Thompson last fall made two phone calls while he was jailed in Mississippi.

Jarred Harrell was arrested two weeks ago in Meridian, Mississippi, for possession of child pornography.

Clay County Sheriff Rick Beseler identified him as a person of interest in the Somer case the same day, and after the governors of both states consented, Harrell was extradited to Green Cove Springs, arriving after midnight today.

While in Mississippi, he spoke twice on the phone to a person assumed by Lauderdale County, Miss., Sheriff Billy Sollie to be his mother, who told him, "keep your chin up, keep your mouth shut and get an attorney."

Harrell told her on the calls that he never signed anything when he was booked, saying the officials in the jail forgot.

"Unfreakingbelievable," his mother replied.

You can listen to both calls in the window to the right.

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. -- More charges have been added against the person of interest in the Somer Thompson case.

Today, the Clay County Sheriff's Office added two more charges against Jarred Harrell: 12 counts of production of child pornography and molestation of the child involved.

READ THE NEW ARREST REPORT

Harrell was arrested in Mississippi initially on 29 counts of child pornography from Clay County. He was extradited to Clay County and arrived this morning.

Mary Justino with the Clay County Sheriff's Office said these charges are "even more serious than the possession of child pornography charges he already faces."

The new charges are in no way related to Somer Thompson. Harrell will be back in court tomorrow for a first appearance on these new charges. He is now being held with no bond.

Harrell Back In Court On New Charges

Person Of Interest In Somer Thompson Killing Held In Clay County Jail

POSTED: Tuesday, February 23, 2010
UPDATED: 6:51 am EST February 25, 2010

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. -- Jarred Harrell, the man named as a person of interest in the death of 7-year-old Orange Park girl Somer Thompson, is headed back to court on Thursday morning, facing additional charges involving the production of child pornography and molestation of a child.
The Clay County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday afternoon Harrell is accused of 12 counts that represent 12 separate images of a child. The sheriff's office said these new charges "are even more serious than the possession of child pornography charges he already faces" and "do not involve Somer Thompson."
Harrell is now being held on no bond and will have another first appearance Thursday morning at 7:45.
Harrell appeared Wednesday before a Clay County judge on child pornography charges for the first time. He made his first court appearance via closed-circuit television about 8 a.m. After a brief hearing, Harrell's initial bond was set at $1 million and his arraignment set for March 10.
Harrell, 24, who was already facing 29 counts of possession of child pornography, was held in jail in Lauderdale County, Miss., since his arrest by federal agents two weeks ago. He was released to Clay County deputies on Tuesday morning and was booked into the Clay County jail early Wednesday morning.
The court appearance lasted only a few minutes and Harrell said little during the hearing. When asked if he understood the charges against him, Harrell said, "Yes, sir."

For security reasons, multiple cars and many officers were involved in driving him to Green Cove Springs, Fla.
The caravan arrived at the Clay County Jail shortly after 1 a.m. Wednesday, where he was booked. Sheriff's office spokeswoman Mary Justino said he will be kept in solitary confinement, but will be allowed to receive visitors.
During the brief hearing Wednesday morning, Ann Dugger of the Justice Coalition texted updates to Somer's mother, Diena Thompson, then was to visit the family home to provide details and offer comfort for the new pain each development in the case sparks.

They're waiting on answers for a baby that was not only just brutally murdered, but also thrown in the trash," Dugger told Channel 4's Melanie Lawson.
Outside the courthouse, a group of motorcyclists displayed a "Justice For Somer" banner and showed support for the Thompson family.
"I don't think the community will ever be quite the same," said Sharon Galloway, who lives across the street from the Thompson home. "I think everybody wants to have some kind of end to this. I just hope that it brings some kind of peace to people."
Rod Buchanan, whose daughter and her fiancé lived with Harrell when he said they discovered child porn on Harrell's computer, said he's relieved Harrell is coming back to Clay County.
"It's a relief to see him get back here for the child porn charges," Buchanan said. "We want to see justice served. We don't know that that man's done anything else other than that."

Harrell Wears Protective Jacket To Court Hearing

GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. -- Jarred Harrell appeared again in court Thursday morning, but wore a different outfit than the one he had on Wednesday.

Instead of the traditional stripped jumpsuit most inmates wear, Harrell had on a green protective suit.

When questioned by reporters, a sheriff's deputy in court said it is commonly worn by inmates to protect themselves.

A representative from the state attorney's office says he has seen the outfit used most often for inmates who are suicidal, although no one would say if this is the case with Harrell.

Rod Buchanan's stepdaughter once lived with Harrell at an Orange Park apartment. He told First Coast News on Thursday that his family is "shocked" over the new charges.

Harrell is facing 12 counts of producing child porn and one count of child molestation. That's in addition to the 29 counts of possessing child porn he's already charged with.

Harrell only said four words. When Judge Richard Townsend asked Harrell if he had any questions, Harrell replied "No sir."

When asked if he understood his rights, Harrell said "Yes sir."

Harrell's arraignment on all charges remains March 10 at 9 a.m.

The Justice Coalition spokeswoman was there on Wednesday on behalf of Somer Thompson's family.

"They're waiting on answers for a baby that was not only brutally murdered but also thrown in the trash," Ann Dugger said.

EXCLUSIVE Police: Jarred Harrell Took Pictures of 3-Year-Old in His Bedroom

GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. -- Court records, obtained by First Coast News, show Clay County detectives believe Jarred Harrell took pictures of a little girl in the bedroom of his Gano Avenue home.

According to Harrell's arrest warrant involving the molestation and production of child porn charges, detectives seized a digital camera belonging to the 24-year-old at his home in Callahan, Fla.

The camera was found while police were serving a search warrant at the Nassau County house two weeks ago.

The arrest warrant states detectives found, on the camera's storage data card, a video and 11 still images.

Police described the pictures as that of "a partially nude, white female child between the ages of 3- to 5-years old."

According to the warrant, the little girl was asked to "...place herself in different positions during recording."

It states Harrell "...was also seen on the recording taking his hand and spreading" the little girl's body parts in order to expose her genitals.

The warrant said the child's mom identified the girl as her daughter.

HERE IS THE COMPLETE WARRANT. WARNING -- IT IS VERY GRAPHIC: WARRANT 1 | WARRANT 2

Police said the pictures were taken between August and November 2008, when the child was 3.

The mother also told police the video of her daughter was taken in Harrell's bedroom, in his Orange Park home, at 1152 Gano Ave.

The girl's mother was able to identify the room by looking at other pictures on Harrell's camera, which were taken at the same time as the video, police said.

In addition to the molestation and production of child porn charges, Harrell is also charged with 29 counts of possession of child porn.

Just released court records show the ages of the girls in those pictures, which police said were found on Harrell's computer, are from under 10- to 18-years-old.

None of the charges against Harrell are related to the October disappearance of 7-year-old Somer Thompson, who vanished on her way home from school and was found dead in a landfill days later. But he is considered by the Clay County Sheriff's Office to be a person of interest in the case.

Documents Detail Harrell's Stay In Jail

State Attorney Angela Corey Provides Answers In Somer Thompson Case

POSTED: Monday, March 1, 2010
UPDATED: 10:29 pm EST March 1, 2010

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. -- Within hours of Jarred Harrell's early morning extradition to Clay County last week, Harrell, 24, a person of interest in the killing of 7-year-old Somer Thompson, was charged with 12 counts of producing child pornography and with molesting the child in that porn.
State Attorney Angela Corey talked about the additional charges on Monday.
"It was a very young child, even younger than Somer Thompson, that there is physical evidence that corroborates the charges," Corey said.
Corey said the child was as young as 3 years old, and the evidence was found on a memory card from a digital camera, according to jail documents released Monday by the Clay County Sheriff's Office. According to investigators, that card belongs to Harrell.
According to Harrell's original arrest report, investigators said there is video of the girl and pictures of her, presumably with Harrell.
The jail documents released Monday give a detailed inmate log that breaks down minute by minute where Harrell went in the jail and what he has done. It also documents when he's been involved in an incident, which is basically any time something happens out of the ordinary with an inmate.

In the last six days, according to the records, Harrell has had five incidents. His first one was within hours of his arrival on Wednesday.
The report says corrections officers found 95 purple and gray capsules in Harrell's property. The capsules were identified as over-the-counter stacker pills, or weight-loss medication.

Later that same day, shortly after Harrell made his first appearance in court, he was taken back to his cell, but for an unknown reason transferred to the medical unit. The reason isn't clear because on the medical report, which reads, "Harrell was to be placed on ... " the words that follow are blacked out.
The report says all of Harrell's property was confiscated. And when he made another court appearance to his additional charges the next day, he was wearing a special vest that prevents inmates from using their clothing to commit suicide.
Harrell's other three incidents appear to be for contraband, according to the documents. The incidents include things like having mustard, salt and pepper packets, candy wrappers and old newspapers.
Harrell's first phone call from jail was made Friday and another call was made Monday morning.
He has asked for a public defender, according to the paper work, because he can't afford a private attorney.
The only visitor on his list is his mother. But it doesn't appear she's seen Harrell because he's in confinement and is not allowed to have any visitors other than an attorney.

Questions Linger In Harrell's Arrest

With the arrest of Harrell on child pornography, production and molestation charges, there are many questions about the man named as a person of interest in the killing of Somer Thompson.
"I can tell you we continue to work him as a primary person of interest or suspect, whichever way you want to phrase it, in the Somer Thompson case," Corey said. "He's still a viable suspect in that case and we continue to work it actively every day."
Somer went missing in October on her way home from school, and her body was found days later in a Georgia landfill, where Orange Park's trash is dumped.
Investigators said Harrell lived in a home on Gano Avenue, where Somer was last seen.
The Clay County Sheriff's Office has never referred to Harrell as a suspect, but strictly as a person of interest.
Corey explained the difference between the two terms. She said investigators won't call Harrell a suspect unless there is enough evidence to charge him with murder. She said they are still working on gathering and processing evidence.
How long can someone be labeled a person of interest?
"Forever. There is no limitation of that specific description of someone that we believe may have committed a criminal act," Corey said.
Meanwhile, Corey said the child-molestation and pornography charges Harrell faces give investigators time to keep him in jail as they work on the Somer Case.
"With Harrell being arrested on these other charges, it gives us the luxury of time to work the physical evidence in the Somer case, and that's what we are doing," Corey said.
She said investigators have time on their side and they want to get all the facts and evidence in line. Corey said Harrell is not going anywhere.
"I think the community who has grieved for Somer, has prayed and worried with all of us, can be at ease right now," Corey said.

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. -- Jarred Harrell, the person of interest in the Somer Thompson murder case, has officially been charged in another case involving molestation and production of child porn.

Police say this case is not related to the Thompson investigation.

Harrell's charging document, filed today, revealed he is now facing 26 charges stemming from 12 photos and one video police say they found in a camera in Harrell's Callahan home.

OFFICIAL CHARGING PAPERS (WARNING: DETAILS ARE GRAPHIC AND EXPLICIT)

Court records show the video and pictures were taken in the bedroom of a Gano Avenue home in Orange Park where the 24-year-old once lived. Harrell will be arraigned on the charges Wednesday.

Harrell was arrested Feb. 11 in Meridian, Miss. on 29 counts related to child pornography. The Clay County Sheriff's Office said the pornography crimes occured in Clay County.

He was extradited to Clay County and arrived Feb. 24.

Somer disappeared on her walk home from Grove Park Elementary Oct. 19. Her body was found a few days later in a Georgia landfill.

Jarred Harrell Faces 13 New Charges

Man Named Person Of Interest In Somer Thompson Case

POSTED: Wednesday, March 10, 2010
UPDATED: 7:31 am EST March 10, 2010

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. -- Jarred Harrell, the man named as a person of interest in the Somer Thompson murder case, is facing 13 new charges.
Harrell, 24, who will be arraigned in a Clay County court Wednesday morning, is accused of child molestation, production and possession of child pornography.
Clay County prosecutor Steve Nelson said Tuesday the new charges are related to the same child, a 3-year-old girl who Harrell's accused of molesting and the child pornography images and video that deputies said they found on Harrell's computer last month.
Nelson said the girl's family knows Harrell and his family, WJXT-TV reported.
As a result of an investigation into the pictures and video, prosecutors said they are filing one new lewd and lascivious molestation charge against Harrell and 12 new counts of using a child in a sexual performance.
Prosecutors said the reason for the new charges is to "maximize the prosecution."
Deputies said the evidence comes from a memory card that was found on Harrell when he was arrested in Mississippi. They said images of the young girl were taken while Harrell was living at his parent's home on Gano Avenue, where Somer Thompson was last seen before she disappeared in October while walking home from school.
Somer's body was found two days later in a Folkston, Ga., landfill, where trash for the city of Orange Park is dumped.
In total, Harrell is facing 55 charges. He is currently being held without bond.

PostSubject: Co-Workers Upset with Cathy Osborn, Mother of John Albert Gardner III, and Her Return to Work   Sun Mar 14, 2010 12:32 am

Co-Workers Upset with Cathy Osborn, the Mother of John Albert Gardner III, and Her Return to Work (Hashers, Pics & Sex Offender Son, OH MY!!!)

Co-workers are outraged at the return to work of Cathy Osborn, a registered nurse at Scripps Mercy Hospital. Cathy Osborn is registered nurse at Scripps Mercy in the behavioral health unit.
Cathy Osborn is the mother of John Albert Gardner III, the convicted sex offender and accused rapist and murderer of Chelsea King. John Albert Gardner III is also being looked into the possible connection with the murder of 14 year old Amber Dubois whose remains were just found last Saturday, March 6 in Pala, CA.
VIDEO from 10 News.

So why were co-workers upset with Cathy Osborn? Could it possibly be that Osborn had a sex offender son living with her and according to the California Sex Offender Registry, it shows him living elsewhere. It would appear that only the grandmother’s address was listed.

10News learned staff members at Scripps Mercy Hospital are upset about the mother of accused killer John Gardner returning to work. People are outraged about the fact that she allowed her son, John Albert Gardner III, to live with her after his release from prison for raping a teenaged neighbor and that he is now back in jail on murder charges.
Fellow employees have stated their concern with having Cathy Osborn back at work and the bad example that it sets for the hospital. The following was an email to 10News:

“Cannot tell you who I am for fear of being harassed, but his mother Cathy Osborn is going back to work at Scripps Mercy Hospital in behavioral health. She let her son live with her and had a key to her house and now is in a position of authority on a psychiatric unit where other sex offenders or psychiatric patients are placed based on her position … She knew he was a danger and never reported him. Her judgment could let other people out of a psychiatric facility that should not be. Staff do not respect her anymore and have to listen to her because she is in a position of authority. This is not right … Staff do not want to work with her and she is coming back to work.”
10News in San Diego, CA is also reporting on some rather bizarre and risque photos of Cathy Osborn that have surfaced. The pictures are of Cathy Osborn and a group calling themselves the Hash House Harriers running the hills around Lake Hodges and other trails. Of course this was information and pics that have been circulating on Scared Monkeys.net for quite some time in an attempt to draw comparisons, similarities and ties between the murders of Chelsea King and Amber Dubois.
Let’s get one thing perfectly clear, do we think that all Hash House Harriers act this way? I hope not. But, there is something odd that a site would take down all their pic when word got out that it was made public and being researched. People are allowed to do what they will in there own time. However, the issue here is that a mother, behavioral health nurse who should have known better harbored a sex offender son in the midst of this deviant behavior. First of all, how does a behavioral nurse not see the signs in her son for starters?

These are the tame pics
The second rather bizarre circumstance is how does a mother in Cathy Osborn have a convicted sex offender for a son like John Albert Gardner III who committed a lewd act on a 13-year-old girl, and act in such a deviant manner herself? Seriously, how does a behavior health nurse conduct herself in this manner? No wonder her co-workers are livid with her and feel that she has lost all credibility.
10News spoke with psychologist David Gruder, who said that”Children learn from modeling.” Dr Gruder is is correct on modeling, but wrong on whether there is no proof that Gardner ever saw his mother with the club or knew about it. Check out the following pic taken from one of the “hashing” websites showing what appears to be John Gardner in the kitchen carving turkey with another man. You mean Hashers were over for turkey, mashed potatoes and some stuffing and John Albert Gardner III didn’t know who they were or that mom was involved with them, REALLY?
From the looks of the too numerous pics that could never be posted due to nudity and the obscene nature of the pics, are we also supposed to believe that every one was on their best behavior as well for Thanksgiving Day dinner?

Pic from the following web site that has been conveniently taken down

10News spoke with psychologist David Gruder, who said, “Children learn from modeling. All of us learn from what’s modeled to us. Not from what we’re told.”
Gruder said any child exposed to such behavior would be impacted.
“If this is part of the environment that a child grows up in, then that child starts to believe as a child that this is part of what’s normal and that it’s OK for them to follow in those footsteps,” said Gruder.
There is no proof that Gardner ever saw his mother with the club or knew about it.

Another pic taken from the now down Hasher site from Thanksgiving 2009
The article also went on to say that a childhood friend of Gardner’s told a Lake Arrowhead (Riverside County) newspaper that as a teen Gardner admitted to having bipolar disorder and he had been sexually abused by a male member of his family.

“The responsibility for doing the damage is of course on the shoulders of those who did not parent this boy properly,” Gruder said.

Lastly, how damning is it that the were found in found where the skeletal remains of 14 year old Amber DuBois were found in Pala, CA a rural, rugged area in northern Dan Diego County, California. The very same place where there was a Hashers run.

So it just must be a coincidence that the Hasher run took place within miles of the location where Amber DuBois was found? Amber Dubois went missing on February 13, 2009. Hash House Harriers post there runs well in advance, see this web site for runs posted from now until October 2011.

Casino arrow shows where Hashers run started, arrow above where Amber’s body was located

It cannot be a coincidence that Chelsea King was abducted, raped and murdered while she went for a jog. No one is saying that the Hashers are involved whatsoever. The point is that we are dealing with a sexual predator in John Albert Gardner III who is a convicted sex offender, who is supposedly bi-polar and molested as a child.

Could John Albert Gardner III have been so sick and disturbed that he did this so the bodies could have been potentially found in spots where his mother’s leud, crude running group usually runs? Could he rapes and kill women and place the bodies on the trails where his mom’s running group either has been or plan to be as a sick game or way to get back at his mom? In any event, one still has to ask the question, how does a behavioral nurse whose job it is to deal with disturbed people not have seen the signs? Moreover, how does a mother of a convicted sex offender act in such a risqué manner and conduct herself in such a wild and sexual way in that club members including Osborn would party half-naked or completely naked after a run.? One might think if their son had the signs of a predator and was a sex offender they would not act in such a manner, especially if the sex offender lived with you.

Orange Park Man Accused Of Child Porn

Authorities Say Pornography Found During Search For Somer Thompson

POSTED: Thursday, March 18, 2010
UPDATED: 2:55 pm EDT March 18,2010

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A 61-year-old man known as "grandpa" in the Orange Park neighborhood where 7-year-old Somer Thompson was abducted and killed last October appeared in federal court Thursday on two counts of possession of child pornography.
Clay County deputies said they came across pornographic images on Charlie Watkins' computer during the door-to-door search for Somer, but he is not facing any charges in connection with the girl's disappearance or slaying.
Although investigators said Watkins regularly invited children into his house to use his computer, there are no allegations of any inappropriate behavior with those children. They said Watkins was cooperative during the investigation.
After a brief hearing on the pornography charges, bond was set at $20,000. The judge stipulated that if released, Watkins have no contact with any children -- including his grandchildren -- and will not be allowed to use a computer.

Channel 4's Jim Piggott is learning more about Watkins and the charges against him. He'll have complete reports on the local station beginning at 5 p.m.

Gardner had 8 run-ins with law after prison release

Suspect in Chelsea King murder fined for drug, driving offenses

SAN DIEGO - The convicted sex offender charged with murdering a17-year-old Chelsea King was repeatedly fined for drug and driving offenses following his 2005 release from prison — once while driving a car similar to one later used during an attempted child kidnapping, records show.

Four incidents occurred while John Albert Gardner III was on parole, including a misdemeanor citation for possessing marijuana.

It was not immediately clear if the marijuana violation could have sent Gardner back to prison.

The state Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation could not be reached for comment Friday. The media office was closed for a state-mandated furlough day.

Officers who stop sex offenders for minor violations may not be aware of their status, authorities said. A few states include notification on their driver's licenses that the holder is a sex offender, but California licenses do not.

Gardner served five years for beating and molesting a 13-year-old neighbor in 2000.

He was cited for marijuana possession in Escondido in June 2008, three months before his parole ended. He had been off parole for two months when he was fined $640 for a second drug citation in November.

In the second case, Gardner and another registered sex offender were found drinking beer and smoking marijuana in the bed of a truck at an Oceanside park, law enforcement records show. The other man was sent back to prison for violating parole.

State law bars registered sex offenders from living near parks but not from visiting them.

Last June, Gardner was cited for driving without proof of insurance on a freeway near Escondido. He was driving a gold 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix. That October, a similar car was used by someone who unsuccessfully tried to abduct a girl at gunpoint as she walked to school in the Riverside County town of Lake Elsinore, authorities said.

Authorities seized a similar car from an Escondido junkyard earlier this month and took it to a city holding facility.

Gardner has not been charged in that case, but a composite sketch of the suspect resembles Gardner, who was living in Lake Elsinore when he was arrested on Feb. 28 in the Chelsea King case.

Gardner, 30, has pleaded not guilty to assaulting and murdering the Poway teen, who vanished last month while running at a San Diego wilderness park. Her body was found near the shore of Lake Hodges.

Gardner also is under investigation but has not been charged in the killing of 14-year-old Amber Dubois, who vanished last year while walking to school in Escondido. Her bones were discovered earlier this month north of San Diego.

Records show that between his prison release and re-arrest, Gardner was cited at least eight times for running a red light, speeding, lacking proof of insurance, possessing marijuana and having an open container of alcohol in a car.

He was fined in seven cases, and one speeding ticket was dismissed after he completed traffic school.

ORANGE PARK, Fla. -- Diena Thompson thanked the public, police and local businesses this afternoon, hours after police announced charges against Jarred Harrell in the murder of Thompson's daughter Somer.

Thompson said she had been waiting for more than 150 days for justice that has finally come. "Someone took (Somer) away from me, her siblings, her family and the world," she said during a news conference at Orange Park Baptist Church. "A monster. That's all this person is - a monster."

Jarred Harrell is charged with pre-meditated murder in the October 2009 abduction and murder of Somer. The 7-year-old had been walking home from Grove Park Elementary School when she disappeared. She was found days later in a Georgia landfill.

Thompson appealed to the public today to make changes to protect children in the community in the future.

"This isn't Mayberry anymore.....As community leaders, we need to get together to figure out what it is that we are not doing right," she said. "It's time for us to do something different. It's time for us to reclaim our children safety and innocence."

Jarred Harrell Indicted By Grand Jury

Man Accused Of Killing 7-Year-Old Somer Thompson

POSTED: 6:10 pm EDT April 1, 2010
UPDATED: 6:58 pm EDT April 1, 2010

GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. --

The man accused of killing a 7-year-old Clay County girl has been indicted by a grand jury.
State Attorney Angela B. Corey announced Thursday that the Clay County grand jury returned a four-count indictment charging Jarred Mitchell Harrell with murder in the first-degree, kidnapping, sexual battery and lewd or lascivious battery in relation to the disappearance and death of Somer Renee Thompson.
Somer disappeared Oct. 19 from her neighborhood in Orange Park. Her body was found two days later in a landfill in Folkston, Ga.
On Feb. 23, detectives with the Clay County Sheriff's Office transported Harrell from Meridian, Miss., where he had been arrested, to the Clay County Jail on charges not related to Somer's death. At that time, Harrell was only considered a person of interest in the girl's death, investigators said.
On March 26, Clay County Sheriff Rick Beseler gathered the "Team Somer" task force to announce that Harrell had been charged with murder.
On Thursday, evidence was presented to the grand jurors of Clay County, who returned the four-count indictment against Harrell at about 4 p.m.
Judge William A. Wilkes accepted the indictment and set no bond on the charges.
Harrell's arraignment on the indictment is scheduled for April 8 in Clay County.

Jarred Harrell Charged With Murder In 7-Year-Old's Death

POSTED: Thursday, April 8, 2010

GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. -- The unemployed restaurant worker accused of sexually assaulting and killing 7-year-old Somer Thompson has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Jarred Harrell entered the plea in a brief hearing Thursday morning. He is being held without bail.
Somer's body was found in a Georgia landfill two days after she vanished walking home from school in October. Authorities say Harrell lured Somer into his parents' home, where she was asphyxiated and tossed into a trash bin.
Harrell was charged March 26 in Somer's slaying.
He was already being held on child pornography charges in a separate case.
