Prayer vigil held at CMS for Hailey Dunn

By By Staff
Posted January 3, 2011 - 11:07am

A prayer vigil held in front of Colorado Middle School was attended by over 700 people, all praying for the safe return of Hailey Dunn, the missing 13-year-old Colorado City girl.
Attendees lit candles and prayed for Dunn's family, her friends, the law enforcement officials and Hailey herself. Several Colorado City ministers, along with a few school officials, led the large audience in prayer. Flourescent orange ribbons were handed out to those attending, and participants were encouraged to tie the "Bring Hailey Home" ribbons to their cars, offices, homes, etc. to show support for Dunn and her family.
A reception followed the prayer vigil in the CMS cafeteria.
Thirteen-year-old Hailey Dunn was last seen at 1804 Chestnut in Colorado City at 1 p.m. on Monday, December 27.
Several citizens met at the Colorado Middle School on Friday morning, December 31, and fanned out across Colorado City to pass out flyers. An impromptu base was set up at the CMS cafeteria for volunteers wanting to help. Some Colorado High School students also traveled to Sweetwater to pass out flyers, expanding the search area in hope of finding the missing girl.
According to CCPD officers, donors have increased the amount of the reward to $4500 to be used as a reward for the safe return of 13-year-old Hailey Dunn. This was the latest official information available as of 1 p.m. on Friday, December 31.
Anyone with any information is urged to contact the Colorado City Police Department by calling 325-728-5294.

Investigators had met with family, friends and neighbors, as well as following up leads from phone calls, according to Colorado City Interim Police Chief John Bivins.

“Anything that has turned up, we’re urgently following up on,” he said. “There’s a little girl missing and I want her home.”

A description and photo of the missing girl have been entered in the TCIC NCIC Region 5 broadcast system which covers surrounding counties. Also, the information has been put on the Copsync system providing anyone in the state with the Copsync system a picture and information on Dunn.

“There have been lots of posts on Facebook that have not been true,” Bivins said, including one report that the missing girl’s body had been found in Loraine. “If she is found, the media will be the first to put the information out. If people have questions, they are more than welcome to contact me at the police department.”

The missing girl is currently being treated as a runaway.

“That’s what the evidence shows at the time,” Bivins said.

“We’re turning over every stone we come across,” Bivins said. “We appreciate everyone in the community for their response. Any information they have, we’ll follow up on all leads.”

Bivins urged anyone with any information to please come forward.

Dunn is a white female, 5'1' with hazel eyes and brown hair and pierced ears. She was last seen wearing navy blue sweat pants, a short sleeve light colored T-shirt and pink and white tennis shoes.

Search Continues for Missing Colorado City Girl

COLORADO CITY - Fliers of 13-year-old Hailey Dunn can be found just about anywhere in Colorado City and the young teen's disappearance is the talk of the town.

"It is so uncommon to have a runaway in Colorado City and I suspect this is true in other smaller towns," Radio Owner Jim Baum, said. "So, as much as we could put her name, her weight, her description and her height and weight and phone number of the mother, then that's what we did."

Baum says everyone in town is worried about the missing teen. Members of the community even donated $10,000 to have her safely returned home.

"To tell you the truth, this is the first time, and I've been here 30 years, that we've had a runaway like this. It's so uncommon," Baum said.

Police say Dunn was last seen on Monday, December 27. She was on her way to a friends house but never made it.

"Officers are working this as a missing person's investigation and we are pursuing leads night and day to find Hailey," Colorado City Police Chief, John Bivins, said. "We will not rest until Hailey is found."

Police first thought she was a runaway, but her mother and friends say she was a happy child and she didn't take anything with her.

Now Colorado City Police, Snyder Police, Mitchell County Sheriff's deputies, Texas Rangers and the District Attorney's Office are searching for the girl.

After this much time has past, many fear this may be more than just a runaway case.

"First couple of days for sure a runaway. next several days you stop and think and now after a week as a parent myself, I worry that it's not a runaway," Baum said.

Hailey Dunn is 13-years-old and weighs about 120 pounds. She has hazel eyes and brown hair with blond streaks.

If you have any information about her whereabouts, please call the Colorado City Police at 325-728-5294.

Hailey Dunn's Home Has Been Searched, Polygraph Administered To Boyfriend

COLORADO CITY, Texas -- Officials in Colorado City are continuing their efforts to discover evidence related to the disappearance of 13-year-old Colorado Middle School student Hailey Dunn.
Officials confirmed Wednesday that Shawn Adkins, the boyfriend of Hailey’s mother, has been administered a polygraph test. He was reportedly the last person who saw Hailey before she disappeared on Dec. 27.
Officials also confirmed that Hailey’s home was searched Wednesday for any clues that may have been missed earlier.
The search was conducted by the Texas Rangers, who looked through the home then spent 10 minutes in an outdoor storage shed.
Hailey was last seen on Dec. 27 when she reportedly told Adkins that she was spending the night with a friend.
However, she never made it to the friend’s house, and the friend has since told KTXS News that she didn’t know Hailey was coming – that they hadn’t made plans for her to spend the night.
Hailey’s mother, Billie Dunn, has said her daughter may have spoken to friends on Dec. 27 after her last reported sighting.
According to the “Nancy Grace” television show, aired Tuesday night, bloodhounds have been used and possibly tracked Hailey’s scent to a local motel – although a search of the motel and review of the motel security videotape apparently revealed no other evidence.
No statewide Amber Alert has been issued because the case has not met the criteria for issuing such an alert.
State officials have three times refused to issue the Amber Alert, Colorado City officials say, because there is no physical evidence to show that Hailey has been abducted or that she is facing physical harm.
A reward for Hailey’s return has now grown to $25,000.

Hailey Dunn Disappearance Becomes National Story

By Merlin Mann, KTXS News

POSTED: 12:10 pm CST January 5, 2011 UPDATED: 1:53 pm CST January 5, 2011

COLORADO CITY, Texas -- The search for missing Colorado City eighth-grader Hailey Dunn made the national media on Tuesday night.
Hailey was featured on the HNL Network national cable show "Nancy Grace." The show devoted most of the entire hour to the case of the 13-year-old Dunn, who disappeared on Dec. 27.
Grace spoke to experts about missing children’s cases and grilled Hailey’s mother, Billie, and her father, Clint Dunn.
Billie Dunn told Grace that bloodhounds were used over the weekend and that the dogs may have tracked Hailey’s scent to a local motel.
Authorities then searched the rooms at the motel and the motel security camera footage, but no other evidence was obtained.
Colorado City Manager Pete Kampfer told KTXS that the Grace segment was “sensationalized” and that there were several inaccuracies aired on the show.

10:00PM UPDATE: Search for Colorado City Girl Takes a New Turn 1/5/11

Colorado City, Texas -

What began as a small town search is now a full blown national story as 13 year old Hailey Dunn remains missing nine days after her sudden disappearance on Monday December 27th.

Today it appeared that authorities were handling the case less like a runaway scenario and more like a criminal investigation of possible foul play.

The center of the investigation appeared to be the Dunn household at the corner of 18th and Chestnut in Colorado City, where the Texas Rangers combed through Hailey’s room and searched the backyard.

With cooperation and assistance from Colorado City Police, the Rangers opened a backyard shed and searched other parts of the property for details.

The Texas Ranger investigators declined interview requests with CBS 7 but Hailey’s mother, Billie Dunn, said the Rangers were looking for any clues or signs that might point out where Hailey went.

Wednesday afternoon Billie told CBS 7 that her boyfriend, Shawn Adkins, was with authorities taking a polygraph test.

City Manager Pete Kampfer said he heard the same thing but that he could not confirm the information.

However, at about 8:00pm, Hailey’s older brother David told our CBS 7 crew that Shawn had refused to take two polygraph tests Wednesday.

David says that Shawn signed the paperwork to take a third but then refused to take it and left the building.

According to David, the Dunn family and police had not seen Shawn since that last polygraph refusal.

Hailey’s two uncles corroborated that story but police are not releasing information about any polygraph tests at this time.

Hailey’s uncle Dale says he took a polygraph test and passed it and added that Billie may have taken one Wednesday night as well.

As of 8:00pm Wednesday night, Billie Jean Dunn was not at her home and her family believed she was in downtown Colorado City with law enforcement authorities.

Colorado City Mayor Carol Sue Dakan is thankful for awareness in the media and for support from the community, which has raised $25, 000 dollars in money to be offered as a reward.

From what CBS 7 crews gathered from officials, both Billie Jean Dunn and Shawn Adkins have been very cooperative with law enforcement and their investigation.

Billie Dunn told CBS 7 that she knows the media attention can help the efforts to locate her daughter.

The story of Hailey’s disappearance gained national exposure when Headline News discussed the incident on the “Nancy Grace Show”.

Grace said that she does not believe Hailey ran away based on the evidence.

According to City Manager Kampfer, search dogs picked up a few scent spots indicative of Hailey’s presence near the Western Suites hotel off I-20, just a few blocks from Hailey’s home.

Kampfer says the scents were detected after law enforcement brought the dogs to several locations, not by following any sort of “trail” to the hotel.

Colorado City residents are showing their support for the search efforts by flying orange colored ribbons from their car antennas and by posting fliers throughout the city featuring Hailey’s photo and information.

Some neighbors CBS 7 spoke with Wednesday say they are frustrated with what they perceived as a delay between the disappearance and the police investigation.

City Manager Kampfer says he’s asked for the issuance of an Amber Alert several times and has been denied.

He visited with DPS officials Wednesday afternoon. There’s no word yet about the result of that meeting.

Kampfer calls the lack of an Amber Alert “frustrating”.

According to state officials, Hailey's disappearance does not fit the strict criteria for the issuance of an Amber Alert.

Local residents expressed frustration about the lack of an alert to CBS 7 this afternoon.

Colorado City resident, Myrtle McGee, says she can't believe that a statewide alert has not been issued.

Nearby communities are also hoping for Hailey’s safe return.

Two Forsan residents could be found cruising Colorado City neighborhoods Wednesday afternoon.

Diana Zubiate says she doesn’t believe Hailey ran away and she wants to help look for her and find out what happened.

“It’s weird”, says Zubiate.

Thousands of people have joined a page on www.facebook.com in support of Hailey's safe return home.

Billie Dunn says she's avoiding the website because of the variety of comments on the page, some of which are critical of her and boyfriend, Shawn Adkins.

When asked whether accusations of foul play surrounding her boyfriend are upsetting she said "no".

Billie explained that she expects people to suspect family members first because of the precedent set by many nationally reported missing child cases of the past.

Prayer vigils are scheduled for 5pm Sunday in Forsan and in Sweetwater.

As of Wednesday evening the police department is still working with the Texas Rangers, DPS and other law enforcement agencies to locate Hailey Dunn.

Helicopter, Billboards Drawn Into Search For Hailey Dunn

By Jocelyn Tovar, KTXS News
POSTED: 2:25 pm CST January 6, 2011

UPDATED: 2:59 pm CST January 6, 2011

COLORADO CITY, Texas -- A search helicopter and billboards are now being used by family and law enforcement officials in the search for missing Colorado City teenager Hailey Dunn.

Thursday also marked the first day back at school for Hailey's eighth-grade classmates at Colorado Middle School. With orange ribbons tied around nearly every tree on campus, the school day took place without 13-year-old Hailey.

Authorities in Colorado City are continuing their efforts at searching and getting the word out.

City Manager Pete Kampfer said a helicopter has been provided by the Department of Public Safety to help search for Hailey. Officers were reported to be searching in woods outside Colorado City on Wednesday.

Kampfer said billboards have been donated by Lamar Advertising to inform the public of Hailey's disappearance. At least one message about Hailey was spotted Thursday on a digital billboard even in Abilene, 70 miles east of Colorado City.

Kampfer, a former FBI agent himself, said he could not confirm any rumors swirling about who has or has not passed polygraph tests related to the disappearance. Different family members have made various unconfirmed and conflicting assertions about polygraph tests taken and their results.

Hailey was last seen on Dec. 27 when she reportedly told Shawn Adkins, boyfriend of Hailey's mother Billie Dunn, that she was spending the night with a friend.

However, she never made it to the friend’s house, and the friend has said she didn’t know Hailey was coming – that they hadn’t made plans for her to spend the night.

No statewide Amber Alert has been issued because the case has not met the criteria for issuing such an alert.

State officials have three times refused to issue the Amber Alert, Colorado City officials say, because there is no physical evidence to show that Hailey has been abducted or that she is facing physical harm.

PostSubject: Hailey Dunn: Mother, Boyfriend Fail Polygraphs   Thu Jan 06, 2011 10:18 pm

Hailey Dunn: Mother, Boyfriend Fail Polygraphs

This is a review of the Nancy Grace Show that aired on Thursday, January 6, 2011.

On the Nancy Grace Show, it was revealed that the mother of missing 13 year old, Hailey Dunn, Billie Dunn, failed her polygraph, as did her live in boyfriend; who, according to the mother, has moved out on her command.

Billie Dunn stated that she took the polygraph that she requested, and did so immediatley. Shawn Atkins did not take it immediately, in spite of the claim by Nancy Grace that he did so without delay.

Question: is a polygraph reliable?

Answer: Yes. However...the must be administered properly.

The skill of the polygrapher is a vital aspect of measuring sensitivity indicators. Let's take a look at what Billie Dunn reported.

Thus far, we have not seen many sensitivity indicators from Billie Dunn, but when we did, we found them associated with the boyfriend, but we also had Billie Dunn speak in the past tense of her daughter.

When a parent of a missing child speaks in the past tense, it is a red flag.

It may be that:

a. She knows her daughter is dead. This means that interviewers must learn why mother thinks her daughter is dead; does she have inside knowledge? Did she kill her daughter? Did she partake in the death? Did someone tell her?

b. She believes she is dead. Although highly unusual, as most mothers will not be able to accept a child's death, so police must focus upon if the mother has this fear, and if so, why.

c. She was referring to a specific event, which was in the past. This would be appropriate use.

In this case, the mother was talking about how Hailey walked alone in day light. If she was referring to a specific walk or even a specific time period, it is appropriate.

Regardless, it is flagged.

In terms of the polygraph, the sensitivity indicators are:

blood pressure
respiration
heart rate
skin perspiration

The interview is usually conducted twice, (screening and actual test) with the subject knowing ahead of time what questions are going to be asked. The questions must be simple. Also, the interviewer must attempt to be clear and if necessary, enter into the subject's personal, internal language.

For instance, many child molestors who do not inflict injury, do not consider what they have done "harming" a child. If a polygrapher asks,

"Did you molest Sally Sue?" to a subject who fondled the child; the subject, who believes in his internal personal dictionary that he "tickled" Sally Sue, can pass this test. The proper question would be different:

"Did you touch Sally Sue on her chest?". This is plain language and is easier to discern truth.

The mother said that she was informed of the boyfriend's failed result before her test and was asked the unusual question:

"Are you afraid of any questions we might ask you?"

I have never heard of a polygrapher giving results out to one party just prior to being tested. Did this disrupt the baseline?
The baseline is established, even if the subject is terribly nervous. We do not know when she was told this, but if she was worrying about her daughter, and was now just told that he failed the polygraph, her mind (and heart rate) would be racing.

This was not a wise practice by the polygrapher. In the very least, the fact that boyfriend failed polygraph should have been entrusted to the interviewer to use, as a tool, during the interview.

Statement Analysis rivals the results of a polygraph, and just like the skill of the polygrapher, the skill of the analyst can make a difference but also can the size of the sample.

It is more reliable to discern truth or deception by analyzing a longer statement (longer interview).

On the NG Show, she did not spend much time asking Hailey Dunn's many questions when the mother would be the best source of information. Instead, she went to the attorney panel who all say the same thing:

No one takes a polygraph until I give my client one in my office
and
There's not admissible.

Nancy Grace should have directed questions to the mother about the boyfriend's attitude towards Hailey.

Where did you meet Shawn?
Does he have a criminal history?
Has he ever been accused of a crime against children?
Does he have a driver's license?
Does he have a job?
Has he ever been arrested?
Did you ever talk to his ex? (something I press women to do...the ex represents the best source of information)
Was he affectionate?
Did he discipline her?
Was he alone with her? How often?
What was their interaction like?
Did she ever co sleep with you? with boyfriend in bed?
How does he get along with 16 year old son? Has he ever used physical discipline on either child?
Do you have pets? how is he towards the pets?

and on and on it goes.

Bethany Marshall finally prompted NG to ask some questions. This revealed:

Hailey did not like Shawn.
Billie met her on MySpace.
Billie thought her parents wouldn't reunite because of Shawn.

There is much more needed to be asked. Even though she failed the poly, Billie returned to the show.

NG's expert on polygraphs stated that it is "emotions" and that by telling Billie that her boyfriend failed before taking her own may have "destroyed" the polygraph, reflecting Nancy Grace's use of the word "destroy" back to her ,and then said that Ativan may have more influence upon truthful answers than upon deceptive ones.

Police need to continue to focus upon the mother and her boyfriend but should not limit their investigation to these people but continue to search the area, canvassing for sex offenders as well as re interview mother and boyfriend, and ask the FBI to polygraph both...again.

Rumors of missing boyfriend unfounded

By Staff
Posted January 6, 2011 - 5:31pm

Rumors that Billie Dunn's boyfriend, Shawn Adkins, has disappeared are unfounded according to City Manager Pete Kampfer and family friends.

Reports were circulated that Adkins fled during a polygraph test Wednesday.
During a press conference at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday afternoon, Kampfer confirmed that Adkins was at the Dunn residence earlier in the day. When asked by an out-of-town news station if the Texas Rangers know where Adkins is, Kampfer stated that he isn't sure what the Texas Rangers may or may not know.

"He is not missing," said Peggy, a family friend, who asked not to use her last name. "Family friends have said he is in Big Spring at his mother's."
Kampfer verified that the investigation has focused and intensified in the last 24 hours but could not elaborate on the direction of that investigation.

Numerous rumors concerning the disappearance of Hailey Dunn can neither be confirmed nor denied as local authorities have closed the lid on the release of information. Questions about 'an item of interest' found in a shed on the Dunn property, possible suspects, failed polygraph tests, even the investigation at a local motel near I-20 are not being verified by local authorities.

That there were a number of failed polygraphs was, however, confirmed by a family friend, now staying at the Dunn residence on 1804 Chestnut.
Dunn will be featured again on the Nancy Grace show this evening via telephone interview.

BREAKING: Searcher Finds Knife Cover in Creek 10 Miles North of Hailey Dunn's Colorado City Home 1/7/11

Colorado City, Texas -

A possible break in the case of missing Colorado City teen Hailey Dunn came today as a member of a civilian search party found a pair of sunglasses and a knife-cover in a creek north of the city.

Midlander Holly Jenkins spotted the knife-cover in Morgan Creek in Dunn, Texas, a small town north of Colorado City.

Jenkins reached into the water and retrieved the cover before placing it on the ground along the wooded shore area.

Jenkins is one of about 100 community members from Colorado City, Snyder, Midland and elsewhere who formed at 2:00pm Friday to conduct a civilian search.

The group split into two parties, one starting in Colorado City working towards Dunn and the other beginning in Dunn and working their way toward Colorado City.

It was just after 4:00pm that Jenkins discovered the knife-cover floating in the water.

The creek is less than a mile away from a residence where Shawn Adkins is staying at this time.

Adkins is the boyfriend of Hailey Dunn's mother, Billie Jean Dunn.

Our CBS 7 crew visited the residence and knocked on the door to speak with Adkins.

A male came to the door and said "Our attorney has advised us to not speak with anyone. No comment".

CBS 7 contacted the Department of Public Safety about the knife-cover.

The Colorado City Police called the CBS 7 crew on scene for directions and began an investigation into the potential evidentiary find.

Watch CBS 7 NEWS at 10:00pm for a live report from Colorado City, video of the knife-cover and an interview with an acquaintance of Shawn Adkins.

PostSubject: Hailey Dunn's Father Speaks Out   Tue Jan 11, 2011 11:10 am

Hailey Dunn's Father Speaks Out

by Anayeli Ruiz
NewsWest 9

COLORADO CITY - Two weeks and counting, there's still no sign of 13-year-old Hailey Dunn. She disappeared a few days after Christmas and one person we haven't heard much from during this whole ordeal is Hailey's father. Now he's speaking out hoping someone, somewhere, knows something about his daughter.

"I don't want the public to forget about Hailey's search because someone's got her, I don't want no one to forget that," Hailey's Father, Clint Dunn, said.

It's the first time since Hailey's disappearance Clint Dunn has addressed the media. His goal is to let everyone know that as time passes not to give up on finding his daughter.

"Were gonna keep it going, it's only going to keep getting bigger. I'm gonna make sure of that, I'm not gonna quit searching. I'm doing everything I can and make it bigger until she is found," Dunn said.

Clint says he will be as active as he can in Hailey's rescue efforts.

"I hope she is safe and scared to come out. It's not like her, she is beautiful child, I'm more scared with each night that goes by," Dunn said.

And no matter how long it takes, Clint has no plans to let things fall by the way side.

"I'm not giving up, I have dedicated my life, this is all we are doing. I will do this for the rest of my life until I find my daughter," Dunn said.

Although Clint lives in Snyder everyday sun up and sun down he's doing all he can to help bring Hailey home.

Hailey Dunn: Search Continues

KTXS is reporting that investigators are concerned about "inconsistent" statements, but do not identify the statements, nor who has made them, other than to say "family".

Nancy Grace may have squandered an opportunity to ask pointed questions while she had on Hailey's mother, Billie Jo Dunn, who informed Grace that she had failed a polygraph.

The description of the polygraph also raised questions about the competency of the polygrapher, including informing Billie Jo, prior to her test, that her live in boyfriend had failed his test, and telling her that they have had others fail more than a dozen times prior to passing a test.

If quotes are availble, we will seek to analyze as soon as possible. Please post any links or quotes.

COLORADO CITY, Texas -- Search officials are struggling with inconsistent statements as they work to create a time line of when 13-year-old Hailey Dunn went missing.

They say a new lead has surfaced from a witness who saw Hailey either Sunday, Dec. 26, or Monday, Dec. 27, walking on Manuel Street in Colorado City with two girls.

Authorities are asking those two unidentified girls to come forward and possibly provide some helpful information concerning Hailey, who has been missing since Dec. 27. She was reported missing to Colorado City police at Dec. 28.

On Sunday officials confirmed there have been inconsistencies in the family's statements, as well as inconsistencies among statements from several others questioned.

When it comes to the search, law enforcement officials would not release any information on their findings in the small community of Dunn, 12 miles north of Colorado City, where they've concentrated their search over the weekend.

PostSubject: Billie Jo Statements   Tue Jan 11, 2011 9:24 pm

Billie Jo Statements

Billie Jo Dunn is the mother of missing 13 year old Hailey Dunn. She appeared last night on the Nancy Grace show (see entry) and there is indication that she and her live in boyfriend were involved in drugs at the time of Hailey's disappearance. Note that her statements are in italics, with Statement Analysis in bold type.

Hailey Dunn's mother appeared weary this evening as she spoke to KTAB's Victor Sotelo and Priscilla Luong about the day's developments in her daughter's disappearance.

"I feel lost,'" Billie Dunn said. "I just want her home."

Dunn said she, along with her mother and Hailey's father, submitted DNA samples to authorities over the weekend in order to put Hailey's DNA on file.

While DPS and fellow investigators are aggressively tackling the criminal side of the investigation, Senior Tropper Sparky Dean said they remain optimistic that the 13-year-old is alive and hiding somewhere. When asked if this gives her hope, Dunn answered very hesitantly.

"I hope they believe that, because I need to believe that, too," she said.

Dunn told Sotelo that her daughter had never left for the night without saying where she was going, and never sneaked out of the house.

Note that we do not have a direct quote, but "never" is not to be taken as "no" in the form of a denial. As a denial, "never" is not to be considered strong.

Earlier in the day, Billie spoke out against some of the people who have been pointing the finger at her and her family regarding Hailey's disappearance.

It’s completely ridiculous how people who don’t know me judge me or my home life or the way I parent," said Dunn. "I feel like I’m a wonderful mom. Although I lost my daughter, I did the best I could and I will continue to do so.”

Note: "completely ridiculous" is sensitive, however, sensitivity arises when someone believes that they are not being believed by others. Note the order: judge me, my home life, and parent; with "parent" (as a verb) last.

"I feel like I'm a wonderful mom" is highly sensitive. Note that she only "feels" and "wonderful" mom is different than a "good" mom. Most parents who work hard at parenting would not call themselves "wonderful" (they're often too tired) nor do realistic parents ever feel that they've done "the best"; they always feel that there is improvement needed here, work needed there, etc. The exaggerated claim shows sensitivity suggesting that even before her daughter went missing, Billie Jo's parenting had likely been criticised, which could have come from her ex husband, family, or even Child Protective Services. It would be important to explore the parenting history as well as any substance abuse history.

Can a parent have a toothache while a child goes missing? Yes.
Is it a red flag?

Yes.

Police would do well to subpoena records of the local area hospital ERs to see if she and/or boyfriend have gone in off-hours complaining of toothaches and/or back pain, seeking meds. Also, if there has been narcotic sales in the home, Hailey would have been exposed to danger.

"Although I lost my daughter" is a concerning statement as it appears to accept the reality that Hailey is "lost" and not simply hiding out, not wanting to be found. As one commentator pointed out, it has a "I love my keys" feel to it; almost non-chalant.

See next the statement Billie Jo made to Nancy Grace about Hailey walking alone:

"It wasn`t rare for Hailey to walk a short distance during daylight."

Note that if she is referring to her daughter regarding a specific past tense event, it is appropriate use of the past tense. If she is speaking of her daughter in general terms, it is a red flag that suggests that:

a. She knows Hailey is dead and police need to learn why she knows;
b. She thinks, believes, or fears Hailey is dead. This still is sensitive as mothers long refuse to accept that their child is deceased and often remain in denial long after fathers have been able to accept the fact of death
.

Dunn added that she's particularly thankful to everyone who has been praying for her family over the last 14 days.

I know I’m not able to speak to each and every one of them, but I want them to know how grateful I am,” added Dunn

Thus far, we have seen:

1. Mother and Boyfriend may be drug users
2. Inconsistencies may be due to boyfriend deceiving mom about being fired from his job
3. Boyfriend may have anger issues; fired; issue w co-worker
4. Police first thought they had a credible eye witness placing the child alive and with friends
5. the police investigation appears to be off-track with poor polygraphy practices including possibly informing subjects of failures; improper pre-interview, etc.

Investigators should focus closely upon the mother and the boyfriend; in particular, the boyfriend's interaction with Hailey. They should be checking cell phone records, interviewing friends, and scanning all internet activity for connections with strangers. They should interview neighbors regarding any activity in the home late at night, cars parked, people coming in and out, etc.

It appears that the local PD has asked for federal assistance.

If the investigation is as skewered as it has been portrayed on the NG show, this will provide relief.

Nancy Grace should be asking the mother direct questions such as:

1. Do you know what happened to Hailey?
2. Describe the relationship that Shawn had with Hailey.
3. Do you take prescription medication? Do you smoke pot? (and so on).
4. Where is Hailey?
5. Did Shawn ever discipline Hailey?
6. Did Hailey complain about Shawn? ect.

why ask

"Do you know what happened to Hailey?"?
Because every word that she utters after "No, I don't" becomes highly significant.

People that have been caught in crimes have been asked why they never told anyone that they committed the crime and will sometimes reply with:

"No one ever asked me!"
Our words reveal us. The words of the deceptive betray them. Even false confessions show deception.

Note to Nancy Grace:

Let Billie Jo speak.

Forget the guests that are irrelevant. You have on THE CHILD'S MOTHER willing to answer questions.

Billie Jo could be on the show because she is trying to keep Hailey's name in the media and is leaking sensitivity due to drug use, poor parenting, neglect, bad boyfriend (and be innocent of this disappearance)

OR

she could be involved and is on the show drawn to learning what investigators know about it, and attempt to manipulate public opinion (the Cindy Anthony School of Public Relations).

It may be that NG is concerned about Melinda Duckett related issues and does not ask open ended or direct questions to Billie Jo Dunn.

Law enforcement needs to focus upon Shawn the boyfriend, and Billie Jo, the mother, and re-interview them, and likely re-polygraph them with an experienced polygrapher.

EXCLUSIVE: Documents Point To Mother, Boyfriend In Hailey Dunn's Disappearance

By Merlin Mann, KTXS News

POSTED: 9:54 pm CST January 11, 2011

UPDATED: 11:45 pm CST January 11, 2011

COLORADO CITY, Texas -- KTXS News has obtained documents that show startling facts into the investigation of missing 13-year-old Hailey Dunn that point to Hailey's mother Billie Jean Dunn and her former live-in boyfriend Shawn Adkins as being primary suspects.
Through the Freedom of Information Act, KTXS has received copies of affidavits that were filed by law enforcement officials for the purpose of securing search warrants to search for and seize evidence related to Hailey’s disappearance.
The affidavits contain facts discovered by law enforcement officials and statements made by Billie Dunn, Adkins and others. In all, a total of six search warrants were issued by Mitchell County Judge Ray Mayo.
The information provided in the affidavits does not assign any guilt or innocence. They are used for investigative purposes only, but in being released to the public for the first time, they do provide explosive details about what law enforcement authorities have found.
Information in these summary statements comes directly from the affidavits:
– Adkins previously had threatened the lives of both Hailey Dunn and Billie Dunn in February 2010.
– Both Adkins and Billie Dunn apparently held an ongoing, intense fascination with horrific films and brutal crimes. Seized in a box in their bedroom were numerous documents, some fictional and some past crimes, that covered such topics such as serial killers, ax murders, sexual sadistic activities, the occult, sex and death topics, motives for murder and mass murderers – including the killing of family members.
– Billie Dunn and Adkins hosted a number of friends for a New Year’s Eve party at their home – just three days after Billie Dunn reported Hailey missing. Adkins downplayed the party, stating they just had a few friends over to the house to have drinks on New Year’s Eve.
– Billie Dunn volunteered to take a polygraph examination, but when she arrived, she was found to be “under the influence of narcotics,” and she was dismissed from the test at that time. On her second attempt, the investigators concluded there was “deception indicated.” After the examination, Billie Dunn was given the chance to discuss and explain “why she failed the examination.” Officials said she couldn't explain them, and she ended the interview by walking out.
– Adkins twice refused to take polygraph examinations. Then he agreed to a polygraph, but after providing some inconsistent information, he ended this polygraph by walking out. Officials said he failed the polygraph, particularly concerning the whereabouts of Hailey.
– During his polygraph examination, before walking out, Adkins provided some positive reaction about knowing where Hailey Dunn is. Indications were that Hailey may be in Scurry County.
– Adkins and Billie Dunn made two withdrawals of cash from an ATM machine in Snyder, in Scurry County, at about 6:20 p.m. on Dec. 27 totaling $140. They told investigators the money was for purchasing drugs.
– Numerous statements made by both Adkins and Billie Dunn, particularly Adkins, have been inconsistent, some with initial denials, then admissions, then changed statements.
On the night before Hailey’s disappearance, her 16-year-old brother, David, indicated that when he left the house at 9 p.m., Hailey was playing one of his video games in the living room in the house. Based on her skill level with the game, David said he expected her to play probably until midnight.
Adkins told authorities that on the day Hailey disappeared that Hailey was going to her father’s house, a block away, then on to a friend’s house. She never made it to either location.
Multiple witnesses told authorities that it was uncharacteristic for Hailey to be gone for long periods of time without checking in with her mother.
Law enforcement officials detailed what Hailey left behind at her home: a toothbrush, hairbrush, contact solution, a new MP3 player – and a jacket that friends say she would not have left home without.
The weather was cold outside, but Adkins said he last saw Hailey leaving without the jacket and the personal items.
Officials report that Hailey was well-familiar with the area and that it can be determined that she would not have gotten lost going to houses a few blocks away. No witnesses reported seeing Hailey walking on the date she was reported to have left her residence.
At one point during the polygraph examination of Adkins, he was asked whom investigators should “look at,” and officials said Adkins responded by saying “both of us,” referring to himself and Billie Dunn.
One inconsistency in Adkins’ statements involved his employment on Dec. 27. Adkins told investigators that he was fired that day, but authorities contacted the employer, who said that Adkins was a good employee and that he hadn’t been fired.
Nevertheless, Adkins left his place of employment at 6:10 a.m. on the morning of Dec. 27 and told investigators that he went straight to his mother’s house in Big Spring. However, cell phone records indicate that Adkins’ cell phone was in contact with cell towers in Scurry County from 6:35 a.m. until 6:56 a.m., during the time when he said he was traveling to Big Spring.
Billie Dunn left for work at 6:20 a.m. on Dec. 27, and authorities said her cell phone was also in contact with the same cell tower during the same time period.
In these early morning hours, authorities believe that Hailey was home alone at the Dunn residence in Colorado City.
On the afternoon of Dec. 27 at about 4 p.m., Hailey’s brother David returned home.
According to his father, Clint Dunn, David arrived about 4 p.m. and pounded on the front door for about five minutes, and no one would let him in the door.
David then let himself into the house through a window, where David said he saw Adkins in a hallway with a “deer in the headlights look.”

Billie Dunn Admits It's Possible Adkins Could Be Involved In Hailey's Disappearance

By Jocelyn Tovar, KTXS News

UPDATED: 7:43 pm CST Januaary 11, 2011

COLORADO CITY, Texas -- Hailey Dunn's mother, Billie Jean Dunn, told KTXS on Tuesday that she now accepts the possibility that her former live-in boyfriend Shawn Adkins could be involved in the disappearance of her daughter.
After adamantly defending Adkins for two weeks, Billie Dunn said Tuesday for the first time that it is possible that Adkins had something to do with Hailey's disappearance.
She stressed, however, that no one knows for certain – and that she was not accusing him of anything.
Adkins is believed to be the last person to have seen the 13-year-old Hailey, a Colorado Middle School eighth-grader.
Adkins reported that Hailey told him on Dec. 27 that she was going to spend the night with a friend – but she never made it to the friend's house. She was reported missing the next day after her mother discovered she didn't spend the night there.
"I never thought he would hurt Hailey, or had anything to do with this," Billie Dunn said, "until it was pounded in my head that that was a possibility. Nobody knows, though."
Dunn said she hasn't spoken to Adkins recently but occasionally communicates with him through text messages.
Adkins is staying at his grandmother's home in the community of Dunn, 12 miles north of Colorado City. A man who came to the door at the house said Adkins is not speaking to any members of the media and that Adkins has legal representation.
Despite cold weather, with afternoon temperatures hovering barely above freezing, the search for Hailey continues.
Volunteer searchers said Tuesday the cold temperatures only motivated them to keep up the search.
"She needs to be found," volunteer Holly Jenkins said. "We can handle a couple hours in the cold."
Billie Dunn also told KTXS that despite how the "Nancy Grace" show has portrayed her in a negative light, Dunn will make another appearance on the show Tuesday.
"Well, I have to," Billie Dunn said, "because I have to have Hailey's face national. So I'll go through hell and high water."
Billie Dunn said the program's accusations are unfounded, which described Dunn as not a credible witness because of a drug history.
"I don't have a drug history or present," Dunn said. "It's not a part of my life.

Hailey: Mother and Boyfriend Concerns

Besides the anger issues of the boyfriend, we have also seen indications of possible drug abuse. It may be that locals in their area have drug involvement as well, reducing reliability of witnesses. The father's appearance on Nancy Grace does little to increase confidence that he was an active and involved parent.

However, Mom's past tense use while speaking of Hailey remains a red flag.

In the analysis, Mom answers some questions honestly, without qualifiers nor sensitivity, but showed increased sensitivity regarding Shawn, her boyfriend. Mom appeared on the first Nancy Grace show with some body language indicators consistent with being under the influence. Perhaps Dr. Glass will weigh in with a complete analysis.

Drugs and anger are a bad combination. In the world of child protective, Drugs and Neglect are close siblings.

The failed polygraphs do not stand out as they would had they been administered by the FBI's trained polygraphers. We need to learn more about the local practices regarding polygraphs.

The affidavits are not proven facts but assertions given to a judge who would then decide whether or not to allow a search warrant. As we have pointed out previously, the drug and anger issues may be confirmed through Child Protective Services history with the mother.

Below is an article from KTXS
Analysis in boldy type.

This raises the question of failure to protect by mother, who let him move in with Hailey in the home. I would also want to know what the father knew about this, and when. His language on the NG Show does not show closeness with Hailey.

This appears celebratory. It would make for a good question for Nancy Grace to ask Billie Jo about.

This was already indicated to us in the NG Show, even though Grace asserted that he was cooperative. The dating itself told us that he was not cooperating but was reluctant. This may be due to drug use, or it may be related to the disappearance of Hailey. (or both)
Then he agreed to a polygraph, but after providing some inconsistent information, he ended this polygraph by walking out.

David then let himself into the house through a window, where David said he saw Adkins in a hallway with a “deer in the headlights look.”

We continue to hope law enforcement will focus upon the boyfriend, and anything he might have told the mother. Both should be re interviewed and re-polygraphed.

Drug involvement opens the door for all types of jeopardy and mother's sensitivity increases regarding Shawn, more so than about her whereabouts and work (straight answers).

These two remain key to locating Hailey. Mother's use of past tense (see analysis) may be referring to a particular event, which is appropriate, but if it is not, it is an indicator that she either thinks or knows that Hailey is dead.

Missing cheerleader's mom: No party at house after she disappeared

By the CNN Wire Staff
January 13, 2011 4:09 a.m. EST

Hailey Dunn was last seen on December 27 in Colorado City, Texas.

STORY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Hailey Dunn was last seen December 27
  • Police have administered polygraph tests to her mother and her mother's boyfriend
  • Mother Billie Dunn described the party as a New Year's Eve "family gathering"

Read more about this story from CNN affiliates KTAB and KTXS.
(CNN) -- Affidavits in the case of a missing 13-year-old Texas girl indicate her mother and live-in boyfriend failed polygraph exams on her whereabouts and they had a New Year's Eve party a few days after she disappeared.
But Hailey Dunn's mother, Billie Dunn, told HLN's "Nancy Grace" on Wednesday that the party was a family gathering and that alcohol was not served.
"We were pretty upset," about Hailey, Dunn said.
According to the affidavits, boyfriend Shawn Adkins ended two polygraph exams by walking out. On the third try, he failed the initial part of the test, but he then "made a positive indication" that the girl could be found in Scurry County, Texas.
Billie Dunn said Adkins was on anxiety medication at the time of the first test.

Billie Dunn was under the influence of narcotics on her first polygraph examination, and she failed the second, according to a law enforcement affidavit posted on the website of CNN affiliate KTAB in Abilene.
The affidavits were filed by law enforcement officials for the purpose of securing search warrants for evidence related to Hailey's disappearance, according to CNN affiliate KTXS.
Adkins was the last person to see the eighth-grade cheerleader on December 27 at Dunn's home in Colorado City, according to local reports. Colorado City -- a rural central Texas town -- is about 70 miles west of Abilene, Texas. Hailey was reported missing by her mother December 28.
Authorities indicated Wednesday they are looking at several "persons of interest."
The Colorado City Police Department responded to a domestic dispute in February 2010 after Adkins allegedly threatened Billie and Hailey Dunn, the released documents show. Adkins confirmed he did make the threats, according to documents.
Billie Dunn said she has no idea what happened to her daughter.
"Somebody knows where she is," she told HLN.
The mother said she and Adkins were interested in stories about violent crimes and murder. The affidavits claim her interest in such topics is a "hobby."
The affidavits also indicated Billie Dunn and Adkins made ATM withdrawals on December 27 to purchase drugs.
Hailey reportedly told Adkins she was going to visit her father and then a friend. Hailey's father, Clint Dunn, says she often came to his home but did not on that day.
Billie Dunn said she took the polygraph test after she was informed that Adkins had failed.
Woodrow Tripp, a polygraph expert, told "Nancy Grace" that troubles him.
''That absolutely would cause major problems emotionally as she's administered one. You want to try to minimize that as much as possible," Tripp said last week.
The night Hailey vanished, Dunn says she thought her daughter was sleeping over at a friend's house.
Dunn met Adkins on the MySpace social networking site more than two years ago, and he moved in with her several months ago.
Hailey is 5 feet, 2 inches tall and weighs 120 pounds. She has hazel eyes and brown hair with blond streaks. When she disappeared, she was wearing navy blue sweatpants, a light-colored short sleeve T-shirt and pink and white tennis shoes.
Colorado City Police, who said they could not discuss the affidavits, said there is no evidence the girl is in hiding or ran away.
"Law enforcement has treated the disappearance of Hailey Dunn as a criminal investigation and will continue to make every effort to follow all investigative leads," it said in a statement.

Authorities on Wednesday said they have searched 80 square miles across multiple counties. They have conducted hundreds of interviews and have followed more than 200 viable leads.

Two More Affidavits, Search Warrants Obtained In Hailey Dunn Case

By George Levesque, KTXS News Director

POSTED: 2:53 pm CST January 13, 2011

UPDATED: 7:23 pm CST January 13, 2011

COLORADO CITY, Texas -- KTXS News has used the Freedom of Information Act again Thursday to obtain two more affidavits and search warrants that have been issued in relationship to the Hailey Dunn case.
These warrants were issued out Nolan County by District Judge Glen Harrison, who serves as district judge for both Mitchell and Nolan counties.
Hailey Dunn, a 13-year-old Colorado Middle School eighth-grader, has been missing since Dec. 27.
The contents of the affidavits, though, were similar to the affidavits obtained by KTXS News on Tuesday and first reported Tuesday night.
The district judge issued the two warrants, one to seize a computer and one for digital media. Officials explained that different warrants are necessary to search the different media devices. A warrant to search a house, for example, would not cover the searching of a computer, thus requiring separate warrants.
The affidavits provide information, or the rationale, that the judge would need for the purpose of deciding to issue the search warrant.
The information in the affidavits does not necessarily provide evidence that would be used, or even admissible, in a court of law; the information is used to justify a search warrant to search for such evidence that might be used in court.
The affidavits, therefore, do not assign guilt or innocence but are used to gather evidence to build a legal case against a suspect.

Investigators Sift Through Sordid Reading List Of Billie Dunn, Adkins

By Merlin Mann, KTXS News

POSTED: 9:48 am CST January 12, 2011
UPDATED: 12:31 pm CST January 12, 2011

COLORADO CITY, Texas -- Billie Dunn and Shawn Adkins apparently had an unusual, if not sordid, reading list.
During the investigation into the disappearance of 13-year-old Hailey Dunn, authorities confiscated 278 pages of material printed from websites about several lurid topics, from mass murder to sex and death.
Billie Dunn described the material as a "hobby."
According to affidavits secured by KTXS through the Freedom of Information Act, authorities found the materials in a box in the bedroom shared by Billie Dunn and Adkins.
The affidavits also detailed witness accounts who said that Adkins was fascinated by horror/slasher films, and it is reported that he is a collector of movie memorabilia connected to the “Halloween” movie series.
The reading material in the box, according to the affidavit, contained material that Billie Dunn told authorities she had printed from a computer at her job which she brought home.
The material included 23 pages of material printed on Sept. 1 that was related to the Edmund Kemper, the so-called "Co-ed Killer." Another 20 pages printed on the same date was related to female mass murders, major cases and murder motives.
Another 18 pages was related to George Emil Banks, who killed five of his own children and went on a broader killing spree.
Another 13 pages were printed on Sept. 25 about Robert Leroy Anderson, a serial killer and sexual sadist. Another 37 pages were printed related to Robert Pickton, a Canadian pig farmer, about mass murder and as many as 23 missing Vancouver women.
Other material in the box included a photo of a pentagram, and information about vampires and the occult.
Fifteen pages printed on Sept. 29 was material related to Alton Coleman and Debra Brown, a pair of killers in which Brown was painted as “a good girl gone bad” and incorporating sex and death.
Another 19 pages printed on the same day was related to the "Princes in the Tower," the Henry VIII murders, and the murder of family members "who were pre-pubertal and premeditated suffocation in bed."
Other material included multiple pages of material associated with the rap group Insane Clown Posse.
In total, the box contained 278 pages of material that investigators thumbed through as part of the investigation of the missing 13-year-old Hailey Dunn, a Colorado Middle School eighth-grader missing since Dec. 27.
The affidavit also includes a statement from one of Hailey’s uncles, who was talking to Adkins about Hailey’s disappearance. The uncle said he could not believe that anyone would hurt a 13-year-old little girl.
The affidavit reports that Adkins replied, “Yah, it’s like killing a deer.”
The uncle recalled that Adkins often talked about how he kills deer, and then he would cut them up with a chainsaw.

PostSubject: Hailey Raped and Murdered?   Thu Jan 13, 2011 10:33 pm

Hailey Raped and Murdered?

The following quotes have come from the Nancy Grace Show from Thursday, January 13, 2011.

I would never do nothing to that little girl" Shawn Adkins.

Note that this is future tense which is not reliable and often used by the guilty.

"that little girl" is distancing language.

This is not a good statement from boyfriend, Shawn Adkins.

"I didn't worry about her being a bad kid" is past tense statement by mother, in reponse to question about possibly runing away. This statement is an indication that Billie Jo believes or knows that Hailey is dead.

Shawn Adkins: "I just want her to come home safe"

Note that he wants her to come home "safe"; not just come home. This is also a concerning statement that tells us that he knows that she cannot come home, and she cannot be "safe".

Billie Jo refused to answer the question about buying drugs. When a subject refuses to answer a question, the subject has answered the question. Drugs. If she is not going to answer questions, did she appear on the Nancy Grace show in order to learn what investigators are thinking? Billie Jo refused again to answer, but said that she had "prescriptions" (plural noted). This would mean that she attempts to avoid an outright lie:

She may have had a prescription for 10 vicodin pills but then went out and bought 10 pills off the street, which is why, perhaps, she portrayed it as "prescriptions" when it was illegal purchase.

Note that on the NG show, the reporter stated that police indicated that Hailey used drugs. Nancy Grace called the allegation "normal American Teenager Experience" for 13 year old child to experiment with narcotics. For a 13 year old girl to try narcotics, the narcotics must be available and part of the house culture. The guests condemned the reporter for repeating the police report and defended the mother, but the mother mentioned friends that they had in common indicating that mother and daughter may have partyed together. When a 13 year old takes drugs, the drug taking is part of the investigation.

Drugs likely have played a role in the disappearance of Hailey Dunn.

Marc Klass "admires" Billie Jo. Billie Jo moved in a dangerous druggie who threatened to kill Hailey and may have gone through with his threat, yet Klass admires her.

Grandmother said that she thinks that Shawn molested and murdered her when she threatened to tell. When questioned, she said this is based upon Hailey fearing Shawn, walking around outside her door at night; where Hailey could see his shadow, or his leg.

The grandmother also said that there was a credible sighting of Hailey in Odessa, Texas.

Police took a sheet from Hailey's bed...looking for male DNA?

Why do police want to dig out of your home, Billie?

"we'll get them under there...." Note plural.

Grandmother said she told Hailey's father that Hailey was afraid of Shawn, but said she could not remember what her son's reaction was.

Billie Jo's response to being asked about the theory of rape and murder: It appals me Why not tell me or Clint. I never heard of anyone fighting me for custody until tonight. Right now.

Bethany Marshall said that Billie Jo is a "brave woman" but needs to "fill in the blanks".

"I'm a credible witness"; what did she witness?

Tried to get custody away from Billie Jo. Wanted Hailey out of the home; last January.

Claims that Shawn hit Hailey

Billie Jo: Why didn't nobody tell me?

New evidence sheds light on Dunn case

New evidence has surfaced based on affidavits attached to search warrants issued through the Mitchell County Judge’s office that may shed more light in the disappearance of 13-year-old Hailey Dunn.
Investigators for the Colorado City Police Department and the 32nd Judicial District served search warrants on Dunn and Adkins, taking their cell phones, a Dell computer belonging to Adkins’ mother, Christina Walker of Big Spring and a 2000 Chevrolet Lumina 4-door car into evidence.
According to the affidavits, investigators believed there was probable cause for evidence of the felony crime of kidnapping contained in the items taken into evidence.
Adkins and Dunn voluntarily surrendered their cell phones to police. The search warrants requested “all stored electronic and/or wire communications or files for user accounts..., including text messages, text message content and any attachments, including picture message and any other files associated with the account, that relate to the time period of December 25, 2010 to January 7, 2011 from the Cellco Corporation.
Although the affidavits do not suggest guilt or innocence, investigators stated that “in the course of the missing person investigation, investigators noted numerous inconsistencies in statements made by Adkins and reported suspicious behavior by Adkins on and around the date of Hailey Dunn’s disappearance.”
According to the affidavits, “the telephone records dispute Adkins’ report that he went straight to his mother’s residence in Big Spring, but show Adkins returned to Colorado City where Hailey Dunn was reported missing.”
The computer, which belongs to Adkins’ mother, was confiscated because investigations showed Adkins had spent time on Walker’s home computer, a Dell Inspiron 530 computer. It was picked up on Dec. 30 and on Jan. 5 the computer was placed into evidence.
Because information gathered during the investigation places Adkins as possibly the last person to see Hailey, police determined the 2000 White Chevrolet Lumina, owned by Dunn and jointly driven by both Dunn and Adkins, was the only vehicle available to Adkins at the time and might possibly contain forensic evidence.
Members of the task force would not comment on a statement contained in the affidavits which state “It is the belief of your affiant (law enforcement officer) that Hailey Dunn was kidnapped and transported to another location against her will.”
However, investigators are looking at several persons of interest, including Shawn Adkins.

The paternal grandmother of missing Colorado City teen Hailey Dunn says her mother’s live-in boyfriend is a primary suspect in her mind.

Hailey’s grandmother, Connie Jones, spoke to national media outlets Thursday, telling them that Shawn Adkins would stand at Hailey’s door and peer into her room.

Jones says Adkins has been the primary suspect in her opinion since Hailey first went missing December 27th.

Statements from Hailey’s grandmother were the focus of the Nancy Grace Show Thursday night on Headline News.

Jones also says Hailey was afraid of Adkins and she believes he may have sexually assaulted and killed her.

Meanwhile, Billie Jean Dunn says investigators have asked to dig and search under her home, although they’re not sure when that will happen.

According to the city manager of Colorado City, no arrests have been made and there are no major new developments in what is now a criminal investigation.

Wednesday night, officials announced that Shawn Adkins is considered a person of interest in the investigation.

COLORADO CITY, Texas -- Electric tape, evidence filters and debris on a sterile sheet were among the items seized from the trunk of Billie Jean Dunn's car last Friday.
KTXS reported the seizure of that car on Jan. 7.
Inventory sheets from investigators have been returned to the Mitchell County Judge Ray Mayo. These were obtained today by KTXS through the Freedom of Information Act.
Investigators must legally submit what was taken after using a search warrant.
The following property was seized from the Dunn's white 2000 Chevrolet Lumina:
– Two rolls of black electrical tape
– One plastic purple cigarette lighter
– Six 3M trace evidence collection filters with trace evidence from vehicle
– Miscellaneous papers
– One sterile sheet with debris from trunk of vehicle.
It's not known why those items were taken, and the Texas Rangers have been very tight-lipped as the investigation into Hailey Dunn's disappearance continues.

The Colorado City Record has learned that cadaver dogs have hit on an area in an Abilene dump where Colorado City's garbage has previously been discarded. Trash, picked up during the time that Hailey Dunn has been missing, was confirmed to have been dumped in that area by the trash service.
Investigators in the missing girl's case will begin an excavation of the site immediately.

Adkins Named As Suspect In Hailey Dunn Disappearance

UPDATED: 2:29 pm CST January 14, 2011

COLORADO CITY, Texas -- Officials have confirmed to KTXS News today that the status of Shawn Adkins has been upgraded to suspect in the disappearance of 13-year-old Hailey Dunn.
Previously, Adkins was considered a person of interest.
Colorado City Manager Pete Kampfer confirmed Friday that Adkins is now a suspect, and thus Adkins becomes the only named suspect in the case.
Hailey Dunn has not been seen since Dec. 27, and Adkins is the last person to have purportedly seen Hailey, when she was said to be headed to a friend's house.
She was reported missing on Dec. 28 after her mother, Billie Dunn, said she discovered that Hailey didn't spend the night with the friend.
Adkins, who is living with his grandmother in the community of Dunn, 12 miles north of Colorado City, is under 24-hour surveillance.

What does Billie Jo Dunn know?

COLORADO CITY, Texas -- Heather Maddox has spent the past two weeks searching miles around Colorado City for any evidence of 13-year-old Hailey Dunn. Maddox described the experience as an "emotional roller coaster."

Seeing the bridge at the entrance to the town of Dunn covered in stuffed animals, Heather said, who she's searching for became real.

A steady stream of people stopped by the bridge to send a message to a girl few have actually met.

"We want Hailey to know that we're thinking of her and that she's in our hearts and that she's not gonna be forgotten," said Nila Harrell, a concerned parent.

Today, volunteers continued to track through land on County Road 1808, but 19 days into Hailey Dunn's disappearance, many are becoming frustrated with the lack of answers, especially those surrounding Shawn Adkins, the mother of Hailey, Billie Dunn's former live-in boyfriend.

"If the evidence points towards him and he's a person of interest why isn't there being more done?" asked Harrell.

Friday, Adkins was upgraded from a person of interest to a suspect in the case.

Earlier in the week KTXS obtained affidavits revealing details about Shawn Adkin's behavior leading up to and after Hailey's disappearance, leaving many in the community shocked.

But standing at the growing memorial, that happens to be just down the street from the house where Adkins is staying, Maddox said it's important to remember why so many have come together.

"That's what everyone needs to keep in mind, is that we're not the judge or jury we're here to find a 13 year-old child," said Maddox
